Collector's Note: Here's another toy line that I believe must be based on a Japanese manga or anime series. The figures are very small, clocking in at about 1". They are made of hard plastic.

I'm not usually a fan of paint Apps nor foot stands, but these figures are alright with me. The detail is top notch. I also like the fact that some of the figs are painted and some are mono-colored. I have a few more of these and will, of course, be featuring them here in the future.

Collector's Note: The first wave of OMFG! is comprised of five creative and highly detailed sculpts, but King Castor is a standout for me. It's not that I feel the sculpt itself is necessarily superior to the other figures, but the character especially captures my imagination. (The comic panel for King Castor that Ralph Niese created only adds to the character's imaginative appeal. You can see the full comic at the Onell Glyos blog. Check the resources menu on the right for a link.)

The UOM yellow is super attractive as I hope you can see. I had mixed feelings about it at first. I thought it might be too "mustardy" but that's not the case. And I especially love the header card. It may be my favorite of the bunch, and that's saying something as they're all nice and fun. As for the baggy itself; let's just say I was afraid to touch it for fear that it would disintegrate on contact, haha!

Collector's Note: Line of figures derived from the 2011 videogame "Skylanders - Spyro's Adventure" featuring the old character of PS1-era Spyro. The figures toys contains a microchip (specifically a RFID chip) that communicates with the "portal", a peripheral connected to the video game console, and enables such character to be played in the game. The paint details on this figure is amazing, along with the slightly pearlescent/translucent plastic used to recreate the illusion that the character is really made of crystals.

Collector's Note: If it looks to you as if this is one of the coolest dinosaur minifigures of all time, then your eyes are in good working order... because it is! And not only is it dripping with cool lookingness, imagine my surprise when I first held it and discovered it was made of rubber! Woot.

Honestly, this figure is wild. And as I'm typing this, I realize I should have taken a pic with some other minifigs to show its scale, which is a true minifig scale. I'd say it was just under an absolutely delightful 2" tall.

But wait, there's more. More LEGO Dinos. This one came in the smallest available set, with the other sets being larger and much more pricey.

If you can get your chubby little fingers on any of these figs, do so.

I mean, Japanese Beast Formers (Battle Beasts) and Laser Beasts were ultracool minifigures to begin with, but to take the characters and shrink them down into rubbery, mono-colored goodness just raises this toy range to a whole other level of awesomeness.

Details: As you can see, I have very little information about these figures. I first saw them at the LRG forums when member Stunner76 posted images of them there. He and Toypedia contributor nanoFotato, both Italian collectors, identified them as Ecologini. Unfortunately, a search using Google Italy turns up no information about these figures. Were they pieces for a board game, premiums of some type, or were they simply a minifigure line sold at retail stores? I'm not an expert in the Italian language, so I'm not sure what, if any, clues can be garnered from the name. However, I did find information about a product called Ecologino, which is apparently a tiny ashtray for use at the beach. It's interesting that the names are so close.

I'm uncertain of their scale as well. I'd guess they are 2-3" in height. I'd also guess that they are made of hard plastic. However, I can't be certain of either of those things.

Update: nanoFatato has gotten his hands on an exquisite Ecologini advertisment made by the Italian company Amico Gio (see scan above). nanoFatato also provides a translation which reads as follows:

Collector's Note: MUSCLEMANIA, the MUSCLE knockoff that isn't. Yes, despite the name and the similarity in form factor, MUSCLEMANIA was actually released first according to packaging dates.

Anyhow, it's a freaking cool minifigure line. One of the greatest things about the line is the rubbery plastic in which some sculpts can be found. It's very reminiscent of the rubbery Cheap Toys.

Speaking of Cheap Toys, the green MM figs also have a slightly transparent quality that makes them grab light not unlike Neon Red Cheap Toys, although not quite as brilliantly. Check it out below.

Collector's Note: Super7 has created a brilliant line of hard vinyl mini-figures based off of popular, larger vinyl sculpts. They stand at approximately 1.5" and have a delightful amount of detail. Several have swivel articulation at the neck, like old Zags above.

True to vinyl/Super7 standards, these guys aren't cheap, clocking in at around $25 and up. :sniffle:

Zillion Of Mutated Bodies Infecting Everyone

In 2009 the guys at October Toys created and released a toyline of five small zombie characters in four colors: Toxic Green, Bone White, Pale Blue and Glow in the Dark.

Their names are School Girl, Rockabilly, Bathtime, School Boy and the Ape, they were sold in full color set or in a pack of 13 pieces or big jar of 100 pieces.

The line was more than successful and new colors were produced (the last wave has been released about a month ago), including some exclusive colors along the road.

About: This figure is the result of a collaboration between sculptor Jason Frailey and toy maker Marty Hanson (also known as The Godbeast). Jason sculpted the figure, and Marty produced it.

The sculpt is a combination of two popular MUSCLE/Kinnikuman characters that Western collectors refer to as the Claw and Sunshine; combine the two characters, and you get Clawshine!

The craftmanship of the piece is superb. The sculpt is incredibly detailed and well-proportioned. The scale is the same as MUSCLE and Kinnikuman figures, which is approximately 2".

Marty produces his figures in a hard, high quality resin that captures all the details of the master piece. There are no pressure bubbles nor flashing.

Look for a full MXD entry devouted to Marty's work sometime in the future.

Collector's Note: This figure bears the word Yolanda in raised letters, which allows one to deduce that it was made by Yolanda. However, that's all I've been able to deduce; even after a Google search for "Yolanda Pirate Toy," which, er, resulted in several pics of women presumably named Yolanda playing with, ahem, toys.

So, though this figure appears to be a Yolanda pirate figgy, I can't say to which toy line it belongs. Shame because it's a fun sculpt (though my above pic didn't capture too much detail unfortunately). I would love to see more from this line.

About: How many dinosaur mini figure toy lines are there? How many times has George Lucas needlessly edited The Star Wars movies? The answer to both questions is "too $&#% many." However, unlike George's edits, there are some good saurian toy lines. The above figures may or may not belong to one of the good ones. And though the above sculpts are pretty basic, I will say they're attractive. I'm fairly certain these figs do not belong to the Dinomite and/or the Dinobrite toy lines. (Both of which I'd like to document here at MXD someday.) These figures are made of hard plastic. I believe I originally acquired them from the UK.

About: These are two pages from an issue of Comp-Rex, a keshi-focused toy magazine published by the famous Japanese collectibles vendor Mandarake.

The issue these pages come from was dedicated entirely to Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z keshigomu. The quality and variety of Dragon Ball keshi is comparable to the range of Kinnikuman keshi.

The main reason I chose to feature these two pages is the series which spans both pages. It is a keshi line that includes fun little accessory vehicles and buildings! The depth and variety of Japanese keshi toy lines never cease to amaze me. It truly is one of the greatest toy genres to collect and admire.

The year is 1999, mankind has established a research facility on the Moon called Moonbase Alpha. They've also established a gigantic nuclear waste dump on the dark side of the Moon. Due to the effects of some unknown, magnetic, moon radiation, the nuclear garbage catastrophically explodes, knocking the Moon out of Earth orbit and launching it into deep space. Oops.

The British produced TV show ran for two, 12-episode seasons. At the time, its production costs were the highest of any television show. The story arch of each season was not unlike other sci-fi shows like Lost In Space and Star Trek; those trapped on the Moon and Moonbase Alpha traveled through space encountering weird phenomena and strange aliens.

We are Moonbase Alpha.

There were 66 cards in the set. The cards are portrait and landscape oriented and feature scenes from the television show. On the back of each card is a full color image "puzzle" piece that can be combined with the other cards to make a complete, poster-size image. There are other non-English sets as well, with different (and better) graphics and different (more interesting) scenes.

Let's take a look at some more cards.

Based on the selection of cards shown here, this doesn't appear to be the most exciting card set. It probably isn't. Yet this set may still appeal to sci-fi aficionados and hardcore card collectors.

Collector's Note: This figure appears to be a cactus whilst simultaneously appearing to be a dog. And yet, it's oddly familiar. It's also a nice little sculpt. I especially love the paws. Very nice.

I'm not sure what to make of the little "nub" on his right side. Perhaps it's a sprue where an accessory of some sort was once attached. This figure has to be based on some character from a movie or cartoon. It's made of ~~hard~~ rubbery plastic. It has Japanese kanji on its back. If you've got any guesses, please let us know in the comments.

Update: Special thanks to @samurai_me for identifying this figure as belonging to the Bio Seed ( バイオだね ) toy line. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any information about it. Based off of a few pics I was able to find and that @samurai_me shared, the Bio Seed figures came with a tiny seed-like capsule that they perhaps could have fit inside.

If I find more info, I'll be sure to update this entry.

Predators DNA Fusion puts an interesting spin on a favorite "raw material" of toy makers, dinosaurs. Capitalizing on the ubiquitous nature of genetics and DNA in our culture, Predators is filled with twenty four violent dinosaur-mutants that are the result of combining the DNA of two dinosaurs.

#22 Kabell

The figures are made of a flexible plastic and have no points of articulation. Paint applications are of a nice quality, tasteful and clean. The teeth are glow-in-the-dark, which is always a fun additional detail. Each figure comes with a detachable weapon; they attach via a nub on the weapon that fits snuggly into a slot on the sculpt's hand or arm.

Single figures come packaged in foil packs. Included is a card and a nicely illustrated and arranged checklist.

The two dinosaurs of which each Predator is made can be seen in the upper corners of the cards. It looks as if Kabell is a hybrid of a Triceratops and Raptor. Indeed, the card is packed with graphics and info that can be used to play a card game as well.

The twenty four dinos are divided into 3 groups, eight monsters per group. The groups are named after what appears to be prehistoric time periods. It's possible the dinosaurs in the groups hail from those time periods, but I'm not sure.

Dracco has created a fun and highly collectable dinosaur-based mini figure toy line. The figures look great, feel great, and are sure to appeal to dino lovers, sci-fi geeks, and mini fig collectors.

Collector's Note: I'm almost embarrassed to say I don't know the origin of this nice looking figure. I totally feel as if I should. I'm almost certain I've seen it before at LRG. And although it looks like a Rat Fink character, I don't believe it is. My guess is that it is an accessory figure or a game piece. Is it from the board game Mouse Trap? If so, it's a very cool, detailed sculpt for a game piece. One of my favs.

Collector's Note: This new Gormiti series really deserves an entire entry of its own; instead I will just make this a very picture-heavy Figure Foto and will then add this information - with larger versions of some pics - onto the end of the already created Gormiti entry. (As all the information on the following materials is in Italian, my knowledge about this line is limited. Nano Fatato, who is much more knowledgable about Gormiti, may want to chime in too.) For now, more pictures!

As you can see, the appendages of the figure - head, arms, legs, and wings - are removable. They are easily removed from their joints by simply pulling on them with a little force. They pop back in just as easily. Along with the appendage snap-in points, the arms are articulated at the elbows.

So far, they seem to retain a secure, snug fit. The figure itself is made of a nice, sturdy PVC and has a nice feel to it.

From what I've been able to gather, the idea is that parts from various figures can be switched and swapped. Thus the name of the line, Morphogenesis. It's a pretty neat idea. (If you like it, be sure to check out Onell's Glyos toy line.)

Along with the figure, the packaging included an instructional page for disassembling a figure, a bio card of the character - Poison, and a graphical checklist of all the figures in the line (I think).

Toxic Crusaders: Hideously deformed creatures of super human strength. No, this entry is not about Al Gore and his friends. (Groan.) The 88 card Toxic Crusader set is based on the short-running cartoon of the same name. The cartoon was a spin-off of a series of comedy horror "Toxic Avenger" movies about a young, wimpy man who was transformed into a mutated monster following a tumble into a vat of toxic waste.

The monster, affectionately known as Toxie, became a crime fighting vigilante. The cartoon continued this theme, but Toxie and his friends focused their efforts on stopping environmental polluters, as was the trend with many cartoons and toy lines at the time (Captain Planet, TMNT, Trash Bag Bunch).

The set consists of portrait oriented cards featuring original artwork of the show's characters, and landscape oriented cards featuring scenes from the cartoon. The original card artwork is nice, if not extremely colorful; the cartoon's animation was done by the same team that animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Ah, Yvonne, the eye candy.

The backs of the portrait oriented cards appropriately feature a detailed bio of the character, and in a stroke of pure marketing genius, feature a picture of an actual Toxic Crusader action figure. Give yourselves a pat on the back, Troma marketing division.

The backs of the cartoon scene cards feature a small blurb explaining the captured scene as well as a few fun, cheesy Toxie's Tips and other little vinettes.

Overall, this set is a pretty typical Topps card set, if not slightly above average. However, I'm not a non-sport card expert; that's just my humble opinion. However, I feel justified in the opinion based on the original card art alone, even if it's not colorful enough for my tastes.

Unfortunately, I don't currently have a Hologram card other than the one on the box lid pictured above. I'll be sure to add a hi-res picture should one ever come into my possession.

Collector's Note: Did you catch that in the details above? This is a custom piece. It pretty much came out of no where. A member of the mini figure toy community, who goes by the handle Muscle Things, commissioned the piece from a professional toy sculptor who prefers to remain anonymous. This individual sculpted Nick in wax, and Muscle Things himself made a mold of the wax master and has cast the piece in magenta and Chocolate brown (and possibly other colors). Muscle Things is well known in the community for making high quality reproductions and custom pieces cast in an incredible rubbery plastic. For lovers of Japanese keshi mini figures, rubbery plastic is a must.

This Nasty Nick piece is phenomenal. The scale and style match perfectly the other Series One Cheap Toys which it was intended to mimic. In fact, if a non-Cheap Toys collector were to see this piece, I'm certain they would be unable to tell it was not part of the original serious. This is what I have always looked for in a true custom figure, and it pleases me to no end. Don't get me wrong, I love kitbash figures and amateur custom sculpts as much as the next collector, but as a vintage mini figure collector there's nothing like seeing a completely new piece that looks like an authentic production figure added to the line. (Garbage Pail Kid purists may disagree.)

Furthermore, the sculpt itself is amazing. The level of detail is second to none of the other series one sculpts. When I first learned of this figure, I was shocked that this was the character commissioned. It seems to me that it would have been one of the toughest GPK characters to interpret into a 3D sculpture. The cape and doll figure at that scale would give any sculptor fits, but our anonymous sculptor nailed both of those features perfectly. Everything about this figure is a win, and I'll just let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

Canne'Boids: Carnivorous aliens who eat other sentient races. Warlike, highly violent and immensely strong. Avoid at all costs. If you see one, run as there are probably more hiding nearby - and they might be hungry.

Canne'Boids are the creations of Chris Negri, or Bah'glenn, as he goes by on his blog, Bah'glenn Creations. From what I've been able to gather, Bah'glenn has been making custom mini figures - many of them using Glyos parts - and using these cool figures in elaborate photo comics posted on his blog. Perhaps at the request of fans of his comics and custom figures, Bah'glenn decided to turn one of his creations - the Canne'Boids - into a toy that other toy collectors could call their own.

The Canne'Boids line consists of figures having one of two custom head sculpts, one pair of custom hand sculpts, and Glyos Buildman body parts. There are two main colorways: black and blue. The blue colorway consists of some figures with translucent green leg or arm limbs. Each figure came with cool accessories and/or body parts such as a tail. Finally, they are made of injection molded PVC. (Be sure to check the following entry at his blog to double check on all that, haha.)

In all, there were a total of 18 figures made in the first wave of Canne'Boids. Their sale was a success, so hopefully there will be more. Bah'glenn has already hinted at more to come, so the future looks bright for this line. Okay, let's take a look at some pictures! The piece I acquired was Canne'Boid #14 and was part of the Bramblespine Pack.

The packaging for this little dude totally set the stage for awesomeness. It screams 1980's, and totally reminds me of something out of the Mini Boglins universe!

Seeing that brown fur poof out of the side of the box has to be one of the coolest mini figure-related things I've ever seen, haha. The detail on the packaging - which has always been one of my favorite things about mini figure toy lines and is often missing in custom toy lines - really speaks to the creativeness and thought put into this project.

I don't know what prompted Arbito to create a line of mini figures, but I'm certainly glad he did. He chose four of his typically larger creations - Patty Power, Cosmic Hobo, Seeker, and Hobo's Van - and shrunk them into deliciously smelly (literally) and squishy minis. Indeed, each of the 3 colorways comes with a corresponding scent: Pink is Cherry scented, Yellow is Popcorn scented, and Green is Watermelon scented! It's a really fun concept and works really well.

Rivet Wars was created by Ted Terranova as "a context in which to make toys, art, stories and stuff." His first piece is the beautiful Vert Tank. Its creation is a wonderful story. I first learned about Rivet Wars on the October Toys forum. Ted had submitted his Vert Tank design, then called Sherman, as a submission for series two of the OMFG! minifigure toy line. Shortly thereafter he created a 3D design of the sketch using a computer program called 3D Max, submitted the design to Shapeways.com, re-named the piece Light Vert Tank, received a 3D printout of the design in the mail, created a mold of the printout, and finally cast a small army of awesome, new, hard resin minifigures!

If that all sounds very simple and easy, I can assure you it wasn't! However, Ted has made the entire process seem incredibly easy. He has tentative plans to create an illustrated guide of the process he used to make the Vert Tank. Be sure to check his Rivet Wars website for that potential future offering.

In keeping with the military theme, Ted first cast the Vert in shades of green. As you will see, I convinced him to try some new colors.

Details: The Wacky Packages card range of Topps which got its start in 1967 is a long-running classic, right up there with Garbage Pail Kids. In 2011, the range experienced an exciting, new evolution and was produced in the eraser medium.

Twenty four Wacky Packages were made in eraser form. Twenty of them apparently common and four allegedly produced in "rare" quantities. Wacky Packages are parodies of various North American products ranging from sodas and soups to cereals and crackers. How well does the range translate from the 2D form-factor of card art to the 3D world of rubber sculpts? Let's see!

Collector's Note: Iwako erasers have been on my radar for several months now since I found a Samurai figure back in February 2011. I was lucky to stumble upon a cool toy store called Kid's Ketch in Lewes Delaware last week that carried an amazing assortment of toys, including Japanese erasers. I picked up this Giraffe (love the color scheme) and a few others. I'll post a full Iwako entry here at Toypedia someday. :)

The Giraffe is considered a "puzzle eraser" and is made of multiple parts. The tag line on the packaging header card states: It's put in!
