Bazaar Items

Toy Line: Biting Granny

Location: Yahoo! Japan

Vendor: L77M78

Auction Number: e103497031

Collector's Note: Here's yet another Japanese piece that I don't have much information about. I've been seeing these pieces on Yahoo! Japan for months now, and I have just been waiting for an auction with a decent image to share here.

These appear to be pencil toppers, which are right up there with mini-figures as far as my favorite toys go.

There's several different sculpts and colors. I haven't quite figured it out, but I think (and could be wrong) that many of the characters are old people. In the auction description, the seller has the phrase "Grandma Bite" written; I've seen that in other auctions for these as well. (Vendors on YJP tend not to give too much information in their auction descriptions unfortunately. It would really help us Western mini-figure collectors if they did!)

Anyhow, I love the fact that the teeth (dentures?) are a separate piece. I love multi-part minifigures. Japanese keshi toy lines tend to have way more multi-part figures than Western keshi. In fact, I can't really think of any multi-part Western keshi...

Update: Thanks to Eric Nilla for sharing a great website archive featuring this toyline: Fights Keshi Archive

It looks like the figures come in several colors such as green, yellow, blue, pink, and gray. The teeth/dentures come in several colors as well: white, yellow, silver, and black. The website identifies these as being made by the Mitsubishi Pencil Co., Ltd. in 1987.

The website also features a line of Biting Gojira (Godzilla) figures as well, identical in style to the Biting Granny line. It was made in 1995-96 by Bandai. Very fun!

Biting Grandma Erasers - Mitsubishi Pencil Co., Ltd.: 1987

There are many character color types and the teeth can come in other colors as well, Silver being a rare color.

Here is a great website for them. -- http://fights.srv7.biz/kamituki.html

I found three of them in my keshi bin, but only one with his teeth :(
