Lucky Yuckies

Property: Lucky Yuckies

Medium: Mini Comic

About: Lucky Yuckies were Western vending machine figures released in the mid-80's that were bootlegs of the Japanese keshi toy line Gegege No Kitarō.

The creepfest continues with the final scans from book one of the Lucky Yuckies comics. (I think "Stone Monster" needs to eat a bran muffin...)

Is it possible that the bootleg version of Gegege No Kitarō manages to be wackier than the original? I think so.

Lucky Yuckies figures show up in MUSCLE lots from time to time and are thus frequently in need of identification for those not familiar with them. Though the figures have been identified for years, finding packaging or documentation was a long time coming. Thanks to a tip from Eric Nilla, I was able to sn-izzle-atch 5 Lucky Yuckies mini-comics from eBay.

So I've got pages and pages of a very wacked out comic series to share with you all. Below is the cover - front and back - of book one. Enjoy!

Damn, I'm kind of glad I didn't find these as a child, haha. Much more to come in the future!

Gegege No Kitaro Figure Foto

Toy Line: Gegege No Kitaro

Sculpt Name: Daruma

Collector's Note: As with the DBZ entry a few days back, I've come up empty-handed after doing a web search for this character's name. If you know it, please let us know in the comments. Perhaps then we can discover what he's so grumpy about!

Says nano Fatato:
He's a Daruma, an egg-shaped doll for good luck and perseverance and also a symbol of physical or mental resilience because, if knocked over, he springs back up.
Thanks nano! :D
